Tail Light Removal

Removing the tail lights is an easy job, requried to change the light globes or whole units for a change in appearance. To see the different tail light designs through the years of Z11 Cube production, check out the Details page! To remove the tail lights you will need:

- Needle-nosed pliers
- Small phillips head screwdriver
- 8mm spanner (optional, to remove metal bracket if required)

The tail lights are held onto the car by just 1 screw each unit. The numberplate light is held on by another 2 screws.

1. Remove the numberplate for easy access and lift up the numberplate bracket to reveal two screws. Unscrew these and keep in a safe place.

2. Using your needle-nose pliers, push together the plastic pins to release the wiring harness from the top of the numberplate bracket on each side.

3. Now the harness is loose, unclip the plugs on each side (push down on the clip and wiggle side-to-side to release).

3. Now the tail lights are ready to be removed. To do this, push the whole tail light unit sideways towards the numberplate bracket - it will move a couple of centimetres. Then pull out the unit from the outside first, guiding the metal 'L' bracket out as described in the below pictures. The wiring will follow out the hole.

4. Optional - if required, to remove the metal bracket you will need to undo the two nuts (yellow), cut the two cable ties (red) and use needle-nose pliers to release the plastic clip (blue).

5. Optional - to remove the centre numberplate light, unscrew the two screws (red) above the numberplate bracket as below. The light and surround are now free to be pulled out.

6. Optional - if you are installing different tail lights, it's a good idea to plug everything in first before re-assembly to check they all work properly! It's also a good opportunity to clean out the areas behind the tail lights that can get dirty.

Re-installation is easy - simply follow the steps in reverse, ensuring everything is plugged back in and tested before driving anywhere!
